Steven Angay Sr.

Steven Kalani Angay Sr. died Jan. 19, 2023, at his home. Born Oct. 3, 1945, he was a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and retired a plumber, and member of the VFW Hilo Post 3875, Plumber’s and Pipe Fitters Local 675, and Puhi Bay Ohana. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Feb. 15 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Memorial Service at 10 a.m. Casual attire. He is survived by his wife Blanche Angay of Eden Roc Estates; son Steven Kalani Angay Jr (Melissa); three grandchildren; brother, Leonard( Rose Marie) Angay of Kona; and sister, June Brady of Paradise Park. Anatalia Dacusan

Anatalia R. Dacusan, 86, of Hilo, died Jan. 16, 2023 at Queen’s Medical Center. Born July 3, 1936, in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she worked for a macadamia nut company and she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii. Friends may call Feb. 15 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends may call again on Feb. 16 at the chapel, visitation from 8 to 9 a.m.; services at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park (Lehua Section) at 11 a.m. She is survived by children, Nelly (Xavier ) Elicay of Imus Cavite, Philippines, Mary Ann (Lindy) Lulab of Davao City, Philippines, Gilbert Dacusan and Joseph (Cecille) Dacusan of Hilo, Anabel (Richard) Pidong of Keaau and Maria Theresa (Ross) Smith of Alberta, Canada; sisters, Marilyn Pasion of Buyon Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and Francisca Dalere of Hilo, 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Rodney Maldonado

Rodney Daniel Maldonado, 57, of Hilo, died Jan. 17, 2023. He was born in Hilo. A viewing will be held in the Homelani Memorial Park chapel on Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A going home celebration will be held on Feb. 12 at Reeds Bay from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. He is survived by brothers, Richard Maldonado of Hilo and Anthony Maldonado of Washington State; sisters, Donna Mae (Byron) Smith of Hilo and Mary (Andre) Randall of southern California; nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends. Franklin Schulaner

Franklin Lewis Schulaner, 82, of Kealakekua, died on Jan. 20, 2023 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Queens, New York on June 23, 1940, he was a writer of science fiction and other books. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Private services will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Alice Schulaner of Kealakekua; sons, Aaron (Melanie) Schulaner of Honolulu and Daniel (Lisa) Schulaner of California; five grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
